I realize that some are insanely addicted to discussing Kim Kardashian’s Butt and her #breaktheinternet campaign yet, I however choose to focus on 5 “buts” not related to Kim Kardashian. I’m focused on those buts that can stall progress, projects and passions. And the nominees are:
I’m not trying to be mean but….
I hate to rain on your parade but….
I hate to burst your bubble but…
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but….
I hate to ask but…..
I’m worried that we are so immersed in what is “breaking the internet” that we can’t see what is breaking us. There seems to be a lack of humanity, lack of connection, lack of concern, lack of interest.
Yes Maria. I’m finding a great abundance of lack when it comes to when and how we are communicating with each other. Anyone who starts a conversation with any of the above truly has no love for me and it’s clear that he/she is willing to deliver the negative message and or energy at any cost. It’s not really that deep. If you don’t mean to or want to….then don’t.
Only mean people pretend to have your best interest in mind when they begin conversations this way. People who are thoughtful and reflective spend time trying to figure out how to communicate in ways that harvest positive interactions and understanding. This is true in our personal lives and in the office. I feel like if you are going to try to shoot me down, hurt my feelings or make me miserable in any kind of way, you should just do it. Be direct. Be swift. Just do it. I don’t need or appreciate the disclaimer.
